Buddy and I were walking around East Village and got pretty hungry for lunch and decided to check out The Smith, a brother restaurant of The Jane (located in Soho). I had heard good things about their burgers and fries and wanted to check them out.
*I apologize in advance for the poor picture quality, it was taken on his phone since my battery died :(
Complimentary Bread and Butter
Taste: Standard baguette, nothing really special or very tasty, just something to nibble on when your waiting for your meal
Texture: Kind or hard, very chewy
Price: Free
Baby Arugula Salad
Taste: It came topped with shaved parmesan, fennel and lemon. There was a bit too much lemon in this salad, making very tart. Some candied walnuts would have been a nice balance for the dish.
Texture: I love the shaved parmesan, it gave a nice texture against the fennel and was a breath of fresh air from the usual sprinkley kind
Price: $8.00
Burger Deluxe
Taste: It came with a "special" sauce, yellow cheddar, and applewood smoked bacon. Buddy had it cooked rare. It was a pretty good burger, juicy, plenty of cheese and the bacon was very flavorful. Not much ketchup was needed. Overall in burger taste: not my favorite; but a good standard
Texture: I enjoyed the bun very much, crunchy outside, chewy inside. The bacon wasn't over or undercooked and had just the right amount of crispyness
Price: $14.00
Verdict: I really loved the atmosphere of this place. During nice weather, they open the whole front of the restaurant up so it is almost like you are sitting outside. They also have a "to-go" window where you can order coffee or even ice cream sandwiches! I will be dining here again, if not for the food, then most definitely for the ice cream sandwich :)
