The Rabbithole: A Dinner Experiment



Rabbithole, conveniently located 1 block from my apartment, and yet I have never been there for dinner. The brunchs have always been delicious, and I am hoping the same for dinner...


Grilled Vegetables
This was made with goat cheese and fig vincotto. F.Y.I- vincotto means to be cooked down with wine. DELICIOUS, flavorful, softly cooked and a fairly large portion. Sweet, sour, creamy, perfect. A nice appetizer or even a light dinner if you are not too hungry.

Fries with Aoili Dip
Nice quality fries, the kind you wonder why you are still eating them when you are full. They are crisp and came out hot as hell. The sauce tasted like sour cream with a bit of garlic. It was tasty, but could have used another herb, like rosemary to liven it up a bit.

Angel Hair Pasta
This was made with tomato, garlic, basil, a splash of olive oil and shaved Parmesan.  My roomate ordered this, and it was finished before I could even ask for a bite! She said it was super garlicy (but that is a good thing).
Price: $11.00


Grilled Salmon
This was made with roasted sweet potato, beets, parsnip and string beans in a dill horseradish sauce. Dana ordered this one. I had a bite, the salmon was cooked perfectly and flaked off effortlessly with a gentle push of the fork. 
Price: $16.00


Skirt Steak Salad
This was made with oranges, and blue cheese. Nick got this one, however, he ordered it medium rare and it came out medium well. It was still flavorful, if not a bit chewy.
Price: $15.00


Fish and Chips
This was stout beer battered cod with hand cut fries ain a remoulade sauce and side of vinegar. I ordered this one. The  batter was like the texture of the outside of a corndog. A little soggy since they didn't bring it to me right away. The cod was extremely moist and fell apart after each bite. I ended up having to use a fork to finish this dish. It was okay, but I would not order this again.
Price: $11.00
Verdict: Very slow service, we even had to wait for our menus! There are definite hits and misses for dinner. The grilled vegetables were superb. I would order that again and again!

Brunch: Rabbithole









This is place is very convenient since its 1/2 a block from where I live. They have great breakfast, brunch, and dinner specials. They make fresh baked goods on site (which are AMMAZZING). Though I've never tried their dinner, brunch is always hits the spot for me.

Raspberry Scone
Okay, I am not even going to break down the "taste, texture, smell" thing. This is because this scone is possibly the best scone I have ever had in my entire life. They serve it to you warm and the raspberry jam just oozes out uncontrollably. The jam is tart and sweet, and pieces of raspberry were bursts of yummy surprises in my mouth. The scone itself is soft, flaky, and deliciously buttery. The icing drizzle is a nice touch of sweetness to finish off, though not really necessary. The smell...sweet sweet pure butter. Wow, my mouth is just watering thinking about it!
Price: $2.50

Organic Tomato and Mozzarella
Taste: red & yellow tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil, toasted almonds with balsamic reduction. The almonds were a great nutty touch that complemented the mozzarella perfectly. The balsamic reduction was fantastic and not too salty. The tomatoes tasted a little under ripened
Texture: The almonds definitely made the dish adding something crunchy in a generally soft and delicate salad.
Price: $9.00

Egg Bagel Sandwich with Tomato, Basil, and Swiss
Taste: The flavors of the cooked tomato and basil really came through. The bacon were bites mixed in the eggs and the flavor kind of got lost because of that. Not much ketchup was needed ( or should ever; in fact be used if it is a well balanced sandwich!) To be honest I couldn't even taste the swiss, but then again swiss cheese doesn't have a very strong flavor. I would have preferred a gouda to bring out some nuttyness.
Texture: For me, eggs HAVE to be perfectly cooked. I hate when they are way over cooked and feel like rubber in my mouth! Under cooked eggs are too gooey and kind of reminiscent of melting jello. These eggs however were cooked perfectly! Tender and with many layers.
Price: $7.50

Eggs Benedict
Taste: This came on an herbed biscuit, poached eggs & hollandaise sauce. I got really excited when I saw "herbed biscuit", but was disappointed in the flavor. The biscuit had no taste and was cold so all the butter in the biscuit didn't even bring out any flavor. The hollandaise sauce was okay, couldn't really taste much of the mustard seeds, but seasoned potato wedges were very flavorful and were cooked with parsley and sprinkled with sea salt.
Texture: The biscuit was uber hard and dry, the eggs were poached perfectly, with the yolk gushing out and the white soft and slippery. The potatoes had a nice crunchy skin and soft innards

Beet and Goat Cheese Sandwich
Taste: In the sandwich were avocado, walnuts, red onion & basil on rye. This was a interesting combination, so I had to try it. Everything mended together nicely but the red onion was kind of lost (even though it is such a strong flavor) as was the basil flavor. Perhaps they forgot to put it in?? I was craving a stronger taste, perhaps a vinegar, or even a mustard would do.
Texture: The rye toast was fantastically crunchy and well buttered. The goat cheese was creamy and melted together with the avocado beautifully.
Price: $8.00
Verdict: There is something special about the Rabbithole, maybe it is the quirky nick knacks placed around the restaurant, or even the rustic country cottage ambiance, but I feel comfy and cozy here. The raspberry scone is enough to come visit this place, even if you don't want anything else so can sit at the bar and enjoy it with a cup of coffee. They also get microbrews and have them on tap during lunch and dinner time. I will definitely be coming back.
